Recently, I've got my first opportunity to publish my first ever song. It was not the first song that I've ever written but the first to received airplay. Damn...what an experience! Got the opportunity when a fellow friend of mine asked me to contribute a song for his new movie. The best part of it was that I had proposed the song a few months back but he just didn't seemed to be interested. Maybe because it was still in a raw format back then or maybe he was just simply too busy with many other stuff on top of his head...That's the downside of being a successful movie producer, hmmm....but otherwise, I'm grateful for the opportunity given...
It was not chosen to be the theme song for the movie but it was included in the soundtrack. It's fine by me as it still presented me with an opportunity to write for a movie...
Many friends who knew me long enough were quite surprised with me being a songwriter...Not that I had no music background but more because of what I preached long ago...I was practically a non-believer of the local music business and was a frustrated soul so to speak. Nontheless, I still love to write songs and will forever be ...(a teacher once asked me of my ambition, I told him that I would want to open up a recording label; how strange....)
Now that I am in the music business, I have yet to change my opinion. I still look at it the same way and there's still a long way to go for our music business scene to flourish. The market is there for everyone but the system must be properly laid down so that every musician can have a piece of it...
My song went through a roller-coaster ride; lack of airplay and publicity, lack of belief by certain people towards the song but one thing's for sure, it does not lack endurance...
Having made the song the theme song for a TV series recently, it garnered interest from the listeners and now stands at no.6 on a local radio chart. As a non-believer i guess i just have to Ride The Lightning!
